Update – 7/29/19

Storm sewer installation was completed last week south of Boschome Drive.  Work on the retaining wall at Buffalo Creek is nearing completion.  Reinforcing steel was installed and concrete was poured at portions of this wall on Tuesday.  The balance of the concrete for this wall is expected to be poured this week. Roadway aggregate was placed along most of the new lanes between East Cuba Road and Greenwood Drive.  The aggregate placement operation will now focus on areas south of Boschome Drive now that storm sewer installation is complete.  Other work performed last week included installation of the retaining wall south of West Cuba Road and ComEd installed new poles and aerial wire between East and West Cuba Roads. This coming week, work will begin on a retaining wall north of Greenwood Drive and on a retaining wall south of the Kildeer Village Hall.  These operations will take several weeks to complete.   Storm sewer crews will focus on areas north of Greenwood Drive.  Sanitary sewer pipe installation will resume south of East Cuba Road.  The existing line is being relocated to deeper elevations to avoid conflicts with the proposed roadway.  Please check the Photos tab for more in-depth information regarding Read More

Update – 7/22/19

The hot and dry weather last week allowed for good progress.  The first areas of roadway aggregate were placed north of the Kildeer Village Hall as underground and embankment work in the area is now complete.  Storm sewer installation at the south end of the project will continue through this week before crews move to another project location.  The block retaining wall north of East Cuba Road will be completed this week and crews have started the next block wall south of West Cuba Road.  Crews have started to form and place reinforcing steel at the retaining wall north of East Cuba Road and south of Illinois Route 22.  Concrete is scheduled to be poured at these locations on Tuesday, 7/23/19.  ComEd is scheduled to begin their second phase of work.  This work includes moving the remaining overhead electrical lines from the west side to the east side of Quentin Road between East and West Cuba Roads.  When ComEd’s work is complete, communication and cable companies will move their overhead lines.  The poles on the west side of Quentin Road will then be removed. Update – 7/16/19

This past week, dry weather allowed for significant earthwork progress throughout the job. Embankment was placed and the clay was graded to proposed elevation from the Kildeer Village Hall to East Cuba Road. Aggregate base course placement can now begin for this area. Work continued on the retaining walls north of East Cuba Road and at Buffalo Creek. The temporary sheet pile retaining wall at Buffalo Creek was removed and placement of concrete retaining wall panels will be completed early this week. Storm sewer work continued at various locations along the project. An existing box culvert which crosses under Quentin Road south of Illinois Route 22 was extended to the east to pass through the new retaining wall. This week, anchor slab construction will continue for the retaining wall south of Illinois Route 22 and will begin at the retaining wall at Buffalo Creek. Earthwork and placement of aggregate subgrade will continue at various locations. Storm sewer installation will continue south of West Cuba Road. Excavation will begin for two retaining walls south of West Cuba Road and south of the Kildeer Village Hall. Please check the Photos tab for more in-depth information regarding the project.

Update – 7/09/19

This past week, work began on a segmental concrete block retaining wall north of East Cuba Road. The foundation was excavated and block installation started.  Removal of the existing Quentin road pavement continued at various locations. Storm sewer installation continued between the Kildeer Village Hall and West Cuba Road.  Steady progress was made on the retaining wall at Buffalo Creek as the wall increased in height and expanded further in the north and south directions. This week, work will continue on the retaining walls north of East Cuba Road and at Buffalo Creek. In addition, work will resume at the retaining wall south of Illinois Route 22. The existing box culvert at this location will be extended east and pass through the face of the wall. Earth excavation and embankment will also continue provided that the recent dry weather remains. Update – 7/01/19

Work on the retaining wall at Buffalo Creek continued despite the wet conditions. In addition to setting precast concrete wall panels, a concrete wall panel was poured in place to allow the 78” concrete pipe culvert to pass through the wall. At the retaining wall south of Illinois Route 22, reinforcing steel was installed and concrete poured for the anchor slab sitting atop the wall. Storm sewer work continued south of West Cuba Road and north of Pine Lake Circle. Removal of the steel sheets for the temporary retaining wall north of Greenwood Drive was completed. Efforts were made to dry the clay embankment following several rain events. Removal of the existing pavement continued south of West Cuba Road. This week, storm sewer work will continue south of West Cuba Road. Earthwork will continue at various locations pending weather. Work will continue at the retaining wall at Buffalo Creek and work will begin on the retaining wall north of East Cuba Road.
