Update – 6/11/19

Drier weather this past week allowed large-scale earth excavation and roadway embankment to take place.  Material is being excavated from high areas, then placed and compacted in lower areas.  The profile of the road will be changed slightly.  In general, high points will be lowered and low points will be raised to provide a roadway with more gradual slopes.  Storm sewer across from Bristol Trail is nearly complete.  This week the crews will move to north of Boschome Drive and south of Illinois Route 22.  Concrete leveling pads were poured for the retaining wall south of Illinois Route 22.  This allowed the contractor to begin installing the precast panels.  Metal straps connected to the panels are compacted within lifts of aggregate.  The aggregate is then tested to assure density requirements are achieved.  Excavation for a retaining wall at Buffalo Creek will resume this week and level pads are anticipated to be poured near the end of the week. Please check the Photos tab for more in-depth information regarding the project.

Update – 6/3/19

Last week storm sewer installation continued across from Bristol Trail and will be complete in the next couple of days. A second crew will start this week north of East Cuba Road. The two crews will work in tandem to complete the underground pipe installation from East Cuba Road to Greenwood Drive. New sanitary pipe is being installed in the same general area north of East Cuba Road. Work on the sanitary sewer will continue through the end of this week and be stopped until work in the ground improvement areas is complete. Rain over Memorial Day weekend and throughout last week prevented large scale earth excavation operations from moving forward. With a favorable forecast, these operations will resume this week. Work on the retaining wall south of Illinois Route 22 was also impacted. Concrete leveling pads for this wall are now planned to be poured this week. The pads serve as a base to place precast concrete wall panels on. Sheeting installation for the temporary sheet pile wall north and south of Buffalo Creek completed last week. Tie backs to help secure the wall are scheduled to be installed this week and will be followed by excavation of soils Read More

Removal of the poor soils north of Greenwood Drive was completed last week and a two foot layer of aggregate was placed at the bottom of the excavation.  Roadway embankment will be placed in this area as soon as weather allows.  Installation of the storm sewer system continued last week across from Bristol Trail.  Storm sewer installation in this area will continue through the end of the week.  Work on a retaining wall south of Illinois Route 22 started last week.  Concrete leveling pads for this wall are planned to be poured this week.  The pads serve as a base to place precast concrete wall panels on.  Installation of a second temporary sheet pile wall north and south of Buffalo Creek also started last week.  The temporary wall will be complete this week which is needed to excavate soils to construct the permanent wall at this location. Please check the Photos tab for more in-depth information regarding the project.

Update – 5/21/2019

Last week storm sewer installation continued as the crew started working on its second system of pipes.  The storm sewer crossing under Quentin Road between Bristol Trail and Lea Lane/Greenwood Drive was completed on Saturday when traffic was much lighter which helped minimize traffic impacts during the work week.  We will provide notification when the next crossing requiring lane closures is expected.  Crews also started placing roadway embankment at multiple locations throughout the project limits.  Sheet pile installation north of Greenwood Drive is complete and removal of poor soils has started.  As these soils are removed a two foot layer of aggregate will be placed and roadway embankment will be installed.  This week roadway embankment and installing storm sewer pipes will continue. Work on a retaining wall south of Illinois Route 22 will begin this week and continue over the next month.  Installation of a second temporary sheet pile wall south of Bristol Trail will begin near the end of this week. Nicor Gas paved Boschome Drive and reopened the road to traffic on Friday, May 17th.  They will be working on restoration landscaping in the upcoming week as site conditions allow.  AT&T crews will continue removing retired cables and Read More

Update – 5/13/2019

Once again, rain limited construction activities last week.  Storm sewer installation started north of East Cuba Road and will continue through the middle of the week.  Installation of the next system of pipes will begin near the end of the week.  This system will require installing a pipe crossing under Quentin Road between Bristol Trail and Lea Lane/Greenwood Drive.  Because of this, Quentin Road may be reduced to one lane during off-peak hours which could cause traffic delays.  Sheet pile installation north of Greenwood Drive is nearly complete. Once finished, it is anticipated the sheet pile crew will move to a location south of Bristol Trail to begin installation on a second temporary soil retention wall.  Weather permitting; roadway embankment placement is also scheduled this week. Nicor Gas completed the retirement of the old 18” transmission line last week.  They will be restoring the excavation and repaving Boschome Drive at Quentin Road.  The closure is expected to remain in place until May 17th.  More information regarding the closure can be found by clicking here. AT&T crews will continue removing retired cables and poles that interfere with the improvement over the next couple of weeks. Please check the Photos tab for Read More
