Update – 05/18/2020

Work on the noise abatement walls is ongoing. Portions of precast columns and panels have been installed between Pheasant Ridge Drive and Buffalo Creek. Certain post and panel locations will be installed at a later date as we continue to work through underground conflicts. At this time there is not a date when each conflict will be resolved but continue to work and meet with utility companies to work through these issues.   Aggregate for the new roadway has been placed at the northern and southern project limits. This work will continue through the central portion over the next several weeks as weather and ground conditions allow.   Concrete curb and gutter placement started last Friday (5/15/2020). A machine is used to “slip form” the majority of the curb to eliminate the need to use wood forms and shaping by hand. Update – 05/04/2020

Old Quentin Road pavement removal is compete.  This will allow storm sewer crews to install the remaining pipe crossings.  Storm sewer work is anticipated to continue for the next couple of weeks. Work on noise abatement walls is ongoing.  Portions of precast columns and panels have been installed at Pheasant Ridge Drive and Buffalo Creek.  More noise wall columns and panels in this area are expected to be installed this week.  There are a few post and panel locations which will be installed at a later date as we work through underground conflicts. Update – 04/21/2020

Noise abatement wall construction continues.  The remaining precast columns and panels have been installed between West Cuba Road and Pheasant Ridge Drive.  Noise abatement wall column installation will begin this week north of Pheasant Ridge Drive.   Work continues at multiple retaining walls throughout the project limits.  The parapet for the wall north of Pine Lake Circle is now complete since the last portion was poured on Friday, April 17th.  Work on the retaining wall north of East Cuba Road is ongoing and is expected to continue for the next several weeks.   Permanent landscaping on the east side of Quentin Road continues.  Sod is being placed between the curb and shared use path.  West of the shared use path, crews will place seed and erosion control blanket.  Landscaping on the east side of Quentin Road will be complete near the end of this week.   Other project work over the last couple of weeks includes removal of the old southbound Quentin Road lanes and portions of West Cuba Road.  Crews will removed existing storm sewer, curb and gutter and driveways within the project limits.  In the next couple of weeks, installation of storm sewer and placement of aggregate for Read More

Update – 04/06/2020

Noise abatement wall construction has started. The contractor began augering shafts into the ground and filling them with reinforcing steel and concrete. These shafts are the foundation for the noise wall columns. Precast concrete panels are inserted between the columns. Work continues at multiple retaining walls throughout the project. The last parapet section was placed on the wall across from Boschome Drive on Friday, April 3rd. Crews have been forming the reinforced concrete anchor slab north of Pine Lake Circle. Portions of the anchor slab will be poured this week. Work on the wall north of East Cuba Road started this week. Crews are excavating existing material, replacing portions of an existing pipe, and placing wall panels. Work on this wall will continue for the next several weeks. Other project work includes topsoil placement on the east side of Quentin Road. Crews will continue to place and prepare the topsoil this week and anticipate installing permanent landscaping soon. Also this week, traffic on West Cuba Road is scheduled to be shifted slightly north so work can begin on the south side of the road. Update – 03/23/2020

Retaining wall construction continued at multiple project locations over the last two weeks.  Two retaining walls and ornamental fence installation north of White Pine Circle were completed in advance of embankment and topsoil placement.   Concrete and reinforcing steel were placed for the retaining wall across from Boschome Drive.  The parapet wall will have a textured surface which will be stained to replicate stone, similar to other project locations.  The remaining portions of this parapet wall will be poured in the next couple of weeks.   Installation of the panels for the retaining wall north of Pine Lake Circle is almost complete.  Once complete, reinforced concrete and parapets will be constructed at the top.  Concrete placement at this wall could begin near the end of the week.   Other project work included placement of storm sewers at several locations and grading for final landscaping on the east side of Quentin Road.  Work on the noise walls is anticipated to begin this week.  Please keep in mind all construction activities, particularly during spring and winter months, are dependent on weather and crew availability. Update – 03/09/2020

Precast panel installation for the wall across from Boschome Drive was completed last week.  Crews are now working on the reinforcing steel and concrete at the top of the wall.  Concrete placement is anticipated at the beginning of next week. Retaining wall work started at several other project locations; two walls north of White Pine Road, one north of Pine Lake Circle, and one at Buffalo Creek.  Activities at these locations included excavation, wall block installation, and temporary sheet pile placement. Other work performed over the last two weeks includes watermain installation and noise wall preparation.  Work on the retaining and noise walls will continue for the next several weeks.  Please keep in mind all construction activities, particularly during spring and winter months, are dependent on weather and crew availability. Update – 02/25/2020

Retaining wall installation continues on the west side of Quentin Road across from Boschome Drive.  The crew completed the wall to its southern limits and is now working northward.  A section of work on this wall includes hand forming and installing cast in place drainage structures.  When this wall is complete, the crew will move on to the retaining wall north of Pine Lake Circle. Crews have also resumed installing storm sewer structures at select project locations.  This work is anticipated to continue for the next week.  Other work completed this past week includes removal of old storm sewer, concrete curb and pavement.  Preliminary work on the noise abatement wall near the Quentin Road and West Cuba Road intersection is anticipated to begin the week of March 2nd.  Please keep in mind all construction activities, particularly during winter months, are dependent on weather and crew availability. Update – 02/03/2020

Retaining wall installation continues on the west side of Quentin Road across from Boschome Drive.  Crews are expected to reach the south end of the wall by the end of the week and then will begin working northward.  This wall is expected to take several more weeks to complete. Preliminary work on the noise abatement wall near the Quentin Road and West Cuba Road intersection is anticipated to begin the week of February 17th.  Please keep in mind all construction activities, particularly during winter months, are dependent on weather and crew availability. Nicor gas crews completed removal of the removal of the 18” gas line that was retired last May.  Final restoration work disturbed by these crews will be completed in the spring. Update – 01/13/2020

Work on the project site resumed last week.  Crews continued installing the new retaining wall on the west side of Quentin Road across from Boschome Drive.  Excavation for the wall, panel installation, and backfilling at this location will continue over the next few weeks.  If weather conditions allow, storm sewer installation may begin north of West Cuba Road. Nicor gas crews resumed work this week on the removal of the 18” gas line that was retired last May.  These removal efforts will continue through the end of January. Update – 12/17/19

Work over the last couple of weeks has been concentrated on the new retaining wall on the west side of Quentin Road across from Boschome Drive.  The sheeting installed to help facilitate construction was completed followed by excavation.  Wall panel installation started last Wednesday.  Construction of this wall will continue as weather and site conditions allow.  Earth excavation work started in preparation for the noise abatement wall between West Cuba Road and Pheasant Ridge Drive. This week, work is anticipated to continue on the retaining wall across from Boschome Drive. Nicor gas crews continued removal of the 18” gas line that was retired last May.  Removal efforts this week will continue and are expected to be complete in the beginning of January.
