Update – 11/16/2020

We are nearing project completion! Traffic control was removed on Friday and all lanes are now open. Please continue to use caution driving through the project limits as work will continue over the coming weeks, workers will be present, and lanes may temporarily be closed.   The final surface layer of hot mix asphalt was placed throughout the project during the first week of November.   After the surface course of pavement was installed the permanent thermoplastic pavement marking were placed. The surface layer of asphalt was grooved before placing thermoplastic pavement markings. The pavement marking was inset into the groove which reduces potential damage from snow plows and vehicular use.   The permanent traffic signals are scheduled to be “turned on” this week.  This will be followed by the removal of the temporary signals.  Other upcoming work includes installation of recessed reflectors in the pavement lane lines, median markings, and signage.  Work will also continue on various landscaping items and decorative stone at the retaining walls. Update – 10/20/2020

A structural liner was applied to the interior of the culvert at Buffalo Creek. The liner was applied due to deterioration of the existing pipe. The liner application was used versus traditional removal and replacement due to its minimal impact to traffic. The temporary access road needed to apply the liner has been removed, the area has been re-graded, and the disturbed areas will be re-landscaped in the coming weeks. Topsoil was prepared and sod was placed along the west side of Quentin Road. Trees will be planted in the coming weeks in the medians and parkways as well as some areas are scheduled to receive native seed grass mixtures. Placement of the final asphalt surface is anticipated to begin this week and will continue through next week.  Please watch for trucks entering and leaving the roadway.  This work will be followed by placement of the final pavement markings and signs.  At this time, the new traffics signals are scheduled to be turned on the week of November 2nd. Update – 10/06/2020

Placement of the noise wall columns and panels south of Bristol Trail Road was completed late the week of September 21st.  This week, the area adjacent to the wall will be backfilled.  Sidewalk along the wall is anticipated to be placed at the end of this week.  Next week, the area will be topsoiled and landscaped.  Upon completion of the work south of Bristol Trail, southbound traffic will be returned to the outermost lane. Installation of decorative landscaping stone continues at multiple project locations.  The decorative stone placement will continue at the retaining wall south of West Cuba Road and along the recently placed noise wall south of Bristol Trail.  The stone provides a low maintenance decorative surface. Work on a structural concrete liner is starting on an existing culvert that crosses under Quentin Road, north of East Cuba Road.  The structural liner is a cost effective means to repair the culvert which will have little to no disruption to traffic versus traditional removal and replacement.  Temporary access points are being constructed to provide a means for crews to stage the equipment needed for this work.  Application of the liner is anticipated to begin next week, October 12th.  Please note Read More

Update – 09/16/2020

Work on the project was slowed for several weeks as we waited for ComEd to relocate their underground facilities out of conflict with the noise wall south of Bristol Trail Road. The facility was moved just before the Labor Day holiday. We were able to find a rain-free window last week to jog southbound Quentin Road traffic east so work on the wall could begin. Crews will begin drilling the foundations this week and anticipate installing the columns and panels next week. The adjacent sidewalk, topsoil and landscaping work will be scheduled after the wall is compete. This work will take several weeks to complete and after which southbound traffic will be returned to the outermost lane. After traffic is returned to the outermost lanes, the final asphalt surface will be placed. We are currently anticipating this work to begin in mid-October. This will be followed by placement of the permanent pavement markings, final landscaping and turning on the new traffic signals. Update – 08/17/2020

Over the last couple of weeks, permanent traffic signal equipment was installed. In addition, concrete sidewalk placement on the west side of Quentin Road continued and is nearly complete. After traffic was moved to the outside drive lanes on Wednesday, July 29th, work in the medians was allowed to move forward. This included removing the temporary staging pavement and placing concrete curb and gutters.     Topsoil was respread on the west side of Quentin Road and in the medians. The topsoil was tilled, fine graded and the permanent seed with erosion control blanket was placed. Sod will be placed in the areas between the curb and sidewalk at a future date, as will trees in the parkway and medians. Asphalt placement in the turn lanes is scheduled for this week. Delays continue due to underground power lines in conflict with the final remaining portion of noise wall south of Bristol Trail Road. After the lines are moved, southbound traffic will once again need to be jogged to the east for the section north and south of Bristol Trail Road so the wall can be built. Update – 07/27/2020

Concrete sidewalk placement on the west side of Quentin Road started this past week. The sidewalk will extend from just north of Pine Lake Circle to just south of Illinois Route 22. The sidewalk is placed on a 4” aggregate base. Placement of the sidewalk is anticipated to continue through the end of the week.   Noise abatement wall construction continued last week.  Crews installed columns, panels, and decorative caps at multiple locations and power washed the walls.  The noise walls are near complete with the exception of a section south of Bristol Trail Road.  This location will be built once the utility company relocates the power lines in conflict.   Other project work over the last couple of weeks included completion of the retaining wall north of Lea Lane and installation of traffic signal wiring.  Work anticipated over the next couple of weeks includes installation of the new traffic signal posts and mast arms.  Traffic will be placed into a new traffic pattern on Wednesday, July 29th.  The northbound and southbound lanes will be jogged to the outside lane of the new roadway.  This will allow for the removal of temporary pavement and placement of median curb and permanent pavement.  Read More

Update – 07/15/2020

Construction started on a retaining wall north of Lea Lane.  A truck was supplied by ComEd to support a utility pole while the wall is being constructed due to excavations near the base of the pole.  Construction of this wall is anticipated to be complete this week.   Hot-mix asphalt was placed on the north half of West Cuba Road and at Pheasant Ridge Drive.   Paving is completed for this stage of work.  The next area of permanent pavement will be in the medians.   Noise abatement wall panel installation as well as drilling and pouring foundations for the noise abatement walls resumed over the last two weeks.  Columns were placed on the poured foundations.  Additional noise abatement wall panels are expected to be installed this week.  One column north of Pheasant Ridge Drive and several columns south of Bristol Trail Road will be completed at a later date due to utility conflicts.   Other project work over the last couple of weeks included installing traffic signal foundations at the West Cuba Road and East Cuba Road intersections.  Work anticipated over the next couple of weeks includes grading for sidewalk on the west side of Quentin Road and pulling traffic Read More

Update – 06/30/2020

Hot-mix asphalt paving operations took place over the last two weeks. Crews placed three of the four lifts on future southbound Quentin Road and West Cuba Road. The final surface lift will be placed near the end of the project.   Between the top two lifts of hot-mix asphalt, a joint sealant was placed. The sealant prevents water infiltration which leads to premature joint failure during freeze-thaw cycles. The joint sealant placement is tested to assure the proper application rate.   Work on West Cuba Road proceeded quickly as the southern and center sections were constructed. This required multiple traffic pattern changes. Work is ongoing on the northern portion of West Cuba Road.   Other project work over the last couple of weeks included installation of conduit for traffic signals and installation of railings on retaining wall parapets. Work anticipated over the next couple of weeks includes construction of a retaining wall north of Lea Lane, resuming work on select portions of the noise abatement walls, and sidewalk placement. Update – 06/16/2020

Over the last two weeks crews installed concrete curb and gutter throughout the project, including portions of the future median areas.   Work on extending the existing culvert south of Illinois Route 22 was also completed. Crews placed reinforcing steel and cast the concrete in place. The extension is to accommodate a new sidewalk which will be placed at a later date.   Noise abatement wall panels were placed at a number of project locations. Foundation drilling, along with concrete placement and installation of the remaining portions of the wall will resume when crews and equipment become available.   Other project work over the last couple of weeks included roadway excavation, grading, and aggregate placement for the balance of the future southbound Quentin Road.  Asphalt placement will begin this week and will continue through next week.  Please watch for trucks leaving and entering the road.  Also anticipated this week, eastbound traffic on West Cuba Road will be jogged to the south so crews can construct the middle portion of the road. Update – 06/02/2020

Crews completed underground storm sewers for roadway construction last week on both Quentin Road and West Cuba Road.  Two culvert pipes and an extension of an existing box culvert, all immediately south of Illinois Route 22, are the last of the drainage work remaining until the final stages of the project.   Roadway excavation, grading, and aggregate placement were completed from Pine Lake Circle to Pheasant Ridge Road.  This work will continue northward to Bristol Trail Road over the next week.   Other project work over the last couple of weeks included placement of curb and gutter, which comprised areas of the new landscaped median north and south of Lea Lane. Crews also continued staining retaining wall parapets at the south job limits. Asphalt for the new roadway is anticipated for the week of June 8th. Please watch for trucks entering and leaving the road. Work on noise walls and retaining walls between Pheasant Ridge Road and Lea Lane may resume the week of June 8th as we are anticipating some of the utility conflicts to be moved this week.   Please check the Photos tab for more in-depth information regarding the project.
