Update – 4/1/19

Preparation work for the two ground improvement areas on the east side of Quentin Road between East and West Cuba Roads was completed this past week.  Installation of the subsurface concrete columns in these areas is expected to begin next week.  Stud shears were welded onto the H-piles installed for the retaining wall south of Boschome Drive which will hold the concrete to the H-piles.  This week, reinforcing steel will be placed and concrete will be poured for this wall.  Installation of sheet piles north of Greenwood Drive is scheduled to begin later this week.  This operation will take approximately two weeks to finish.  The sheet piles are being installed to assist in removal of poor subsurface soils in the area. Nicor Gas crews continued work on the 4” distribution system in the area of Lea Lane, Greenwood Drive and Bristol Trail.  The installation of the 4” pipes in this area is complete.  Nicor is expecting to bring these pipes into service by April 12th.  Nicor Gas closed Boschome Drive this morning to make the final connection of the 20” steel high pressure line.  The road is expected to be closed until April 30th.  Please follow the posted detour.  More Read More

Update – 3/26/19

Work continued preparing the two ground improvement areas on the east side of Quentin Road between East and West Cuba Roads.  Soils in these areas were removed and replaced by aggregate which will act as a working platform for the equipment needed to install subsurface concrete columns. Installation of the aggregate will be completed by the end of the week followed by the concrete columns next week.  The temporary pipes installed over the last week and a half were tied into existing pipes to bypass the sanitary line in this ground improvement area.  Steel H-piles were installed for a retaining wall south of Boschome Drive.  Over the next two weeks, it is anticipated reinforcing steel will be placed and concrete will be poured for this wall.  Sheet piles north of Greenwood Drive are scheduled to be installed beginning this week.  This operation will take approximately two weeks to finish.  The sheet piles are being installed to assist in removal of poor subsurface soils in the area. AT&T crews continue pulling new cables in conduits and splicing aerial cables at various locations throughout the project.  Splicing on both the fiber optic and copper cables is expected to be complete in April.  The Read More

Update – 4/23/2019 – Boschome Drive Detour

Boschome Drive will be closed to traffic from Quentin Road to South Boschome Circle. This closure will be in place from April 1st to May 16th to allow Nicor Gas crews to connect the new 20” steel pipe to the existing 18” pipe under the roadway. During the closure, local traffic will be able to access Boschome Road from the east only. The detour mapped below will be posted. The detour mapped below will be posted.

Update – 3/4/2019

The project contractor started preparation work on two ground improvement areas on the east side of Quentin Road between East and West Cuba Roads.  These improvement areas were identified during the design phase as having substandard soils.  Once the substandard soils are removed, a working platform on concrete piles will be constructed before placement of roadway widening embankment.  This week the contractor is anticipating installing temporary concrete barrier walls at several various locations within the project limits. AT&T crews continue pulling new cables in conduits and splicing aerial cables at various locations throughout the project.  In addition, work has started on the installation of controller cabinets.  Splicing on the fiber optic cables is expected to be complete in April at which point the old fiber will be taken out of service.  This work is scheduled to take place April 18th through April 22nd.  Installation and splicing on the copper cables will continue through the end of March.  Once complete, the copper lines in conflict can start to be retired. Nicor Gas crews completed installing 20 inch steel pipe by open cut south of West Cuba Road.  The new 20 inch pipeline from Illinois Route 22 to Bristol Trail was “livened” Read More

Update – 2/20/2019

Nicor Gas crews continue to install 20 inch steel pipe by open cut south of West Cuba Road.  This work is anticipated to be complete at end of February.  The new 20 inch pipeline from Illinois Route 22 to Bristol Trail is scheduled to be “livened” on Friday, February 22.  Following the livening of the 20 inch pipe, a series of valves and smaller pipes need to be installed north and south of Bristol Trail.   This work will continue through March.  AT&T crews are completing installation of underground conduit.  They will continue pulling new cables in the conduits and splicing aerial cables at various locations throughout the project.  Cable installation and splicing on the main transmission line is anticipated to be complete at the end of March.  Once this is complete, work will begin to transfer to communications from the transmission line to smaller distributor cables.  Lines in conflict can start to be retired. While the utilities have made steady progress, conflicts with the roadway improvement continue to exist preventing significant work from moving forward.  While we continue to assess the extent of utility delay impacts, it is evident some work items will not be completed until the 2020 construction Read More
