This past week earth excavation and roadway embankment placement continued. The embankment placement included filling the deep excavations at the ground improvement areas between East and West Cuba Roads and north of Greenwood Drive. Work this past week also included the continuation of precast concrete panel installation at the retaining wall south of Illinois Route 22 and the excavation for a retaining wall at Buffalo Creek. Storm sewer crews continue to work north of Boschome Drive and south of Illinois Route 22. This work will be ongoing for the next few weeks. Please note storm sewer crossing under Boschome Drive is anticipated to be installed mid-week. Traffic will be allowed to access Boschome Drive at all times but it may be reduced to one lane during working hours. Please watch for flaggers. Work continued preparing the two ground improvement areas on the east side of Quentin Road between East and West Cuba Roads. Temporary pipe will be installed this week to bypass the existing sanitary sewer around the ground improvement areas. Steel H-piles will be installed this week as construction begins on a retaining wall south of Boschome Drive. Sheet piles will also be installed for a temporary soil retention system north of Greenwood Drive. Nicor Gas crews continued work on the 4” distribution system in the area of Lea Lane, Greenwood Drive and Bristol Trail. Work on the distribution system is anticipated to be complete the week of March 25th. AT&T crews continue pulling new cables in conduits and splicing aerial cables at various locations throughout the project. Splicing on both the fiber optic and copper cables is expected to be complete in April. The old cables are scheduled to be taken out of service April 18th through April 22nd.
